Following closely from his recent award by the BBC, Federer has now been named by the ITF as the 2007 world champion. This is the 4th year in succession that he has taken the title. No mean feat. It's testimony to his being one of the all-time greats.
Justine Henin was named the women's world champion. Also a great achievement for her, retaining this title from last year.
Many ambitious challengers will be at hand to try to achieve top spot in the coming year. But it's difficult to see that Federer will be surpassed. But who knows, tennis is tennis. A few drops of rain at Wimbledon might cause unexpected upsets!
