Nikolay Davydenko is not only the first Russian player to be in the final of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, but he has made history by winning the men's singles title.
He thrashed Rafael Nadal, the hot favourite, in two sets 6-4 6-2. Davydenko is jubilant to have beaten Nadal for the first time. Nadal was determined to grab the title, but somehow his performance fell below par.
As for Davydenko, his confidence was so boosted by his recent wins, that he became totally energised. He frankly shunned all modesty by admitting that his tennis was "so good" in the final.
